About The Position

The Fluid Technician is responsible for the chemicals used during hydraulic fracturing (HF) operations on location, monitors safe transport and delivery of chemicals to and from job location, maintains chemical inventory required for each job, and communicates any chemical changes to vendors and clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Fluid Technician or Field Lab Technician experience, required
  • Maintaining a current, valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, required
  • Must be familiar with the operation of hydraulic fracturing equipment (i.e., blender, hydration, C 10, etc.)
  • Basic ability to perform pH water analysis (iron, sulfate, and chloride testing), verify the amount of acid titration to be pumped for each job, distinguish between cationic and anionic based chemicals, and formulate liquid additives for pump calibration
  • Familiar with operation of Chandler or Grace viscometers, applying hydrometer, interpreting hydrometer readings, and applying thermometer
  • Basic understanding of sand variances in reference to sand sieve analysis while applying American Petroleum Institution (API) standards
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively communicate with vendors, teammates, supervisors, and personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Possess strong math skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications and the ability to quickly learn other work-related software
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of safe hand tool use
  • Reliable and able to work assigned schedule
  • Able to safely perform duties during a 12+ hour work shift that will include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and extreme weather conditions
  • Must be physically able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb equipment ladders or stairs throughout the work shift
  • Must be physically able to safely operate a company vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Assign rates of chemicals designated by each job proposal to corresponding chemical pumps
  • Communicate necessary chemical adjustment recommendations to the client
  • Perform pre-job testing and generate pre-job reports prior to HF treatments
  • Upon the conclusion of each stage, collect chemical straps for the customer service representative and engineer
  • Assist equipment operators when necessary to ensure efficient HF job performance (aid with breaker buckets, diverter bags, addition of chemicals to tub, etc.)
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal departments to maintain a sufficient chemical inventory required for each job
  • Record collected Bills of Lading (BOL) into BOL Log to verify chemical product delivery, volume, and proper off-loading into the correct container
  • Monitor transfer of bulk chemicals, ensure delivery driver is present throughout off-loading process, and review chemical floats and transports prior to departure from chemical yard
  • Maintain chemical sign-in sheet for third party chemicals and vendors
  • Perform rig-up and rig-down of acid roll pump and maintain acid roll pump operation
  • Comply with job location or mobile lab safety requirements and report all violations, hazards, or safety incidents to supervisor
  • Safely operate a company vehicle day or night, on all road types, and in all weather conditions
  • Maintain compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies by attending required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned
