About The Position

The Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) AmeriCorps program is a 27-year-old program administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Park Service with members serving at state parks throughout Florida. Members help to reduce non-native invasive plant infestations through various land management techniques but also educate park visitors and surrounding communities through outreach and interpretation, as well as recruit volunteers to support their non-native invasive plant management endeavors. FLCC AmeriCorps members for this position will report daily to onsite park management, and submit service data to FLCC staff based in Gainesville, FL. Members are required to serve 900 hours between February 2nd – July 31st, 2025. This equates to approximately 35 – 40 hours per week. Member) A.N.T. Members provide directly impact the Florida State Parks by serving in pairs in approximately 25 state parks, focused on habitat restoration through the management of non-native invasive plants through various land management techniques, but also educate park visitors and surrounding communities through outreach and interpretation, as well as recruit volunteers to support their non-native invasive plant management endeavors. The A.N.T. position is located with the Florida Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Program which is managed by the Bureau of Natural and Cultural Resources. Overview of primary responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques
  • Recreation principles
  • Skill In communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • Skill In utilizing a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability To Attend In-person orientation March 16th – 20th
  • Ability To Complete 900 hours between February 2nd – July 30th, 2025
  • Ability To Successfully complete background and fingerprint check
  • Ability To Accurately prepare reports
  • Ability To Interact with all internal and external customers and the general public in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner
  • Ability To Utilize a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability To participate in resource management tasks, including but not limited to non-native plant removal which may include application of herbicide
  • Ability To Follow verbal and written instructions/directions
  • Ability To Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability To Work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability To Perform physical labor
  • Ability To Lift 40 pounds and assist in transporting items or other supplies 100 pounds or more
  • Ability To Properly wear uniform
  • Must successfully pass FBI/FDLE background check
  • Must successfully pass NSOPW check
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Lift 40 pounds
