About The Position

Under supervision, has charge of a group of workers engaged in the propagation and cultivation of all types of horticultural plant material in conservatories, propagating houses, nurseries and other indoor and outdoor floral areas. Assists in laying out and assigning work pertaining to indoor and outdoor floral activities. Supervises the propagation, cultivation and care of annual and perennial floral plants and bedding stock. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or the equivalent (GED) supplemented by two years of experience performing nursery duties or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Knowledge of floricultural and horticultural principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the safe application of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Supervisory skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience in the above stated field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists in directing a group of workers engaged in the propagation and cultivation of tropical herbaceous, annual and perennial plant material, such as disbudding, pruning, and trimming plants.
  • Supervises the planting and bedding of plants according to plans and sketches, eradicating insects and fungi, and cultivating, watering and generally caring for plants in greenhouses, cold frames and outdoor flower beds.
  • Supervises the operation of propagating houses and conservatories including the adjusting of temperatures, humidity and other conditions in an approved manner.
