About The Position

Provides strong customer service, ensures superior product quality, and maintains fresh inventory levels. Has full working knowledge of department functions including floral design, plant preparation, and product maintenance. Responsible for keeping fresh inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintains professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Basic knowledge of perishability, seasonality, conditioning, handling, and sanitation of products.
  • Good understanding of company practices and Floral Department procedures.
  • Ability to lift, reach, and maneuver items up to 40 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Repetitive arm movements required for preparing, packaging, and displaying merchandise.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand–eye coordination required; able to stand for long periods.
  • Must remain mentally alert for safe and accurate work completion. Requires basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of floral product variety, standards, sanitation, handling, and labeling.
  • Operates phones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, stem cutters, choppers, wire tools, staples, hot glue gun, spray paint, balloon heat sealers, and helium tanks. Requires handling latex products.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists due to equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an enthusiastic atmosphere focused on fast, friendly customer service.
  • Assists customers and makes product suggestions.
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques via phone, intercom, and direct customer interaction.
  • Answers incoming calls, responds appropriately, and resolves customer complaints; escalates to Store Director as needed.
  • Takes special orders in person and by phone.
  • Orders balloons, helium tanks, plants, flowers, accessories, and related merchandise. Ensures freshness, variety, and proper stock levels.
  • Monitors and responds to special occasion needs, sales trends, ads, promotions, and customer feedback.
  • Plans daily operations and monitors production processes for efficiency and profitability.
  • Upgrades plants, makes bows, inflates balloons, and prepares bouquets.
  • Creates floral designs that meet company standards.
  • Maintains department standards related to floral upgrades, balloon upgrades, and candy arrangements.
  • Assists designers and sales employees with tasks as needed.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates performance.
  • Has full understanding of all department duties.
  • Follows and performs opening and closing procedures.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees.
  • Trains employees on store policies, sales, and record keeping procedures.
  • Understands and follows company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures proper code dating for all floral products.
  • Initiates personnel actions including hiring, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; physical inventory is conducted every 4 weeks.
  • Implements correct product preparation techniques.
  • Operates equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, stem cutters, choppers, wire, hot glue guns, spray paint, heat sealers, and helium tanks.
  • Performs receiving duties: breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follows proper temperature, storage, packaging, and conditioning procedures for all indoor/outdoor plants, flowers, shrubs, and cut flowers.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Controls shrink and costs.
  • Ensures proper pricing and signage.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in work areas, coolers, equipment, and displays.
  • Uses emergency procedures during equipment or software failures.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product.
  • Attends and participates in sales meetings; communicates sales goals, performance, and opportunities to employees.
  • Ensures compliance with grooming and dress code standards.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans.
  • For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
