About The Position

The Floor Technician is responsible for the maintenance and care of all floor surfaces in a healthcare environment, ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe facility for patients, staff, and visitors. The technician performs specialized floor care procedures in accordance with healthcare standards, infection prevention protocols, and company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of floor care or janitorial experience; healthcare experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of hard surface floor care and carpet cleaning techniques.
  • Ability to operate floor care equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Understanding of infection control practices and universal precautions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs., stand and walk for long periods, and perform physical tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, maintain, and restore all types of floor surfaces, including tile, carpet, vinyl, terrazzo, concrete, and wood.
  • Perform scheduled floor care procedures such as stripping, waxing, buffing, burnishing, and scrubbing.
  • Operate and maintain floor care equipment, including automatic scrubbers, burnishers, extractors, and vacuums.
  • Follow safety procedures and infection control standards as defined by OSHA, CDC, and facility policies.
  • Safely mix and use chemical cleaning agents and disinfectants per manufacturer instructions and SDS guidelines.
  • Assist with daily cleaning tasks such as mopping, sweeping, and spot-cleaning as needed, particularly in high-traffic areas.
  • Respond to urgent floor care needs, such as spills or biohazard cleanups, in coordination with EVS and clinical teams.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of supply carts, closets, and equipment storage areas.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
  • Support overall EVS goals and assist teammates during high-volume cleaning periods or staff shortages.
