About The Position

The Floor Tech is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of floors and common areas throughout the hospital, including patient rooms, hallways, treatment areas, and other clinical spaces. This role plays a critical part in infection prevention, patient safety, and daily operations by performing specialized floor care such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, stripping, and spot cleaning across a variety of surfaces including tile, hardwood, and carpet. The Floor Tech operates equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums while following all safety protocols and proper cleaning procedures. Additional responsibilities include waste removal, spill cleanup, conference room setup, and ensuring all areas meet hospital cleanliness standards. All work is done in accordance with the standard procedures of Environmental Services and in accordance with the hospital’s objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Writing ability to record data such as room numbers and/or names on lists.
  • Experience in environmental services, janitorial work, or healthcare cleaning preferred; on-the-job training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and deep cleaning of patient rooms, hallways, treatment areas, restrooms, and common spaces in accordance with hospital and infection prevention standards.
  • Execute comprehensive floor care including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, burnishing, stripping, waxing, and refinishing to maintain safety and appearance.
  • Operate and maintain floor care equipment ensuring proper cleaning and storage after use.
  • Maintain carpets through routine vacuuming, spot cleaning, and scheduled deep extraction.
  • Inspect floors and surrounding areas for spills, hazards, or damage and respond promptly or report concerns as needed.
  • Perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms following discharge in compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Handle and dispose of trash, biohazard waste, and linens in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Clean and maintain walls, vents, windows, glass, baseboards, corners, and high-touch surfaces per departmental schedules.
  • Maintain fixtures and surfaces such as kick plates, guard rails, and stainless steel to established cleanliness standards.
  • Follow proper chemical usage, dwell times, and PPE requirements at all times.
  • Coordinate with nursing and clinical staff to complete cleaning tasks efficiently without disrupting patient care.
  • Respond to service requests in a timely, professional manner and maintain courteous interactions with patients, families, and staff.
  • Monitor equipment condition, perform basic upkeep, and report repair needs, safety concerns, or supply shortages to leadership.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.
