About The Position

The Floor Specialist is responsible for cleaning, treating, maintaining, preserving and restoring various flooring surfaces like hardwood, tile, stone, carpet and specialty finishes across three facilities - Campbell Archeology Center (CAC), Bruton Heights Wallace (BHW), and The DeWitt Wallace Museum. This role ensures that all public and back‑of‑house areas meet high standards for appearance, safety, and longevity through specialized, in‑house preventive and corrective maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ Years of experience in commercial or institutional flooring maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record based on The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s criteria.
  • Must be able to provide a 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • May not have more than 1 moving violation or at fault accident within 12 months
  • May not have more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within 36 months
  • May not have any serious motor vehicle violations including but not limited to excessive speeding, reckless driving, DUI/DWI, suspended or revoked license, etc.
  • Must be able to operate maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and to learn essential software use for email, scheduling and other communication.
  • Ability to read and understand directions on cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to make best use of time and limited resources, using facilities, materials, equipment, and supplies efficiently, effectively and with reasonable and appropriate care.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned, up to an eight hour shift.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a facilities or cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of proper care techniques for multiple flooring materials and finishes.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in housekeeping/general services, museum collections experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized maintenance for multiple flooring types, including stone, hardwood, carpet systems, and specialty finishes.
  • Implement appropriate care programs for both new and existing floor surfaces to extend service life and prevent damage.
  • Maintain high aesthetic and safety standards in public facing and operational areas.
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance efforts to minimize wear related issues and reduce long term repair and replacement costs.
  • Coordinate flooring maintenance activities across all assigned sites to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Use tools, chemicals, and specialized equipment according to safety, conservation, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain familiarity of with current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and other records as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
