About The Position

Oversees the day-to-day processing activities for a department, a unit, a production line/lines or logistics function. Ensures that assigned schedules or needs are met and that staff adheres to start, stop, and break times. Serves as Safety champion for team to ensure proper food and personal safety policies, processes, and practices are followed at all times. Serves as liaison between line or department members and management on non-personnel issues. Trains new employees, assigns or serves and "buddy" for new employees to ensure proper introduction and inclusion into group. Assures line or department activities are set up prior to start of shift and properly closed down based on schedules. Reports all performance, process, or safety concerns to management in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and on a daily basis.
  • Must have the ability to understand and interpret production work orders, assist team specialists in a wide variety of daily activities to include taking roll call, identifying and preventing production problems, and fill-in positions when employees are absent.
  • Must have complete knowledge of job functions in assigned unit.
  • Must serve as subject matter expert and trainer on existing and new procedures.
  • Must be to accomplish assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to calculate including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages to accurately convert volumes and various numerical reports into useable floor information.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift (8 hours or more), perform repetitive motions throughout the shift such as push/pull/lift, bend continuously through the shift, lift up to 35 pounds, and be able to climb stairs or step up onto a platform several times throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to work in a noisy, wet, and cold environment of approximately 30-34 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Must be able to work 6 or more consecutive days including overtime, any shift, including late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Working conditions include a cold atmosphere (30-34 degrees) wet surfaces and moderate to high noise levels.
  • (Internal applicant qualification) In order to be eligible for this position, employee must have not more than 3 attendance points, NO safety, nor any other disciplinary warnings. Employee awarded the position will be on a 60-day probationary period to complete training and demonstrate SOP's and all related task. Classification date will be reflected upon completion of 60-day probationary period.
  • This job will be awarded based on the ability to perform the job, plant seniority, and classification seniority.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Prior lead experiences a plus.
  • Reading, writing, and speaking English is preferred.
  • Arithmetic and mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, formulas and conversions.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate rotation of staff for lunches and breaks
  • Train new personnel or oversee training by individual's experienced peer, assign "buddy" to accelerate engagement process and safety focus
  • Coordinate response of mechanical/quality/safety downtime issues, notify and follow up with supervisors and maintenance and keep supervision informed of status or potential need to make changes
  • Communicate directions and changes from supervisors to the floor
  • Keep supervision informed of other production problems and make suggestions to correct
  • Work with peer floor coordinators from other departments to insure coordination of raw materials, components, and movement of finished goods is synchronized and potential problems or gaps identified and being addressed
  • Monitor assigned unit's equipment/tool condition, calibration and use.
  • Reinforce area practices to insure SOP's are being adhered to for quality checks and corrective action with peers and team.
  • Reinforce area practices that promote a safe work environment with peers and team
  • Reinforce area practices that promote GMP adherence and food safety with peers and team
  • Manage rework activities
  • Observe and make staffing adjustments with supervisor approval based on schedule changes or other variables such as raw material quality required to insure quality and productivity is maintained in a safe manner
  • Insuring smooth flow of product processing through assigned area.
  • Overseeing corrective actions in the event of an EAM or EVM
  • Performs various rout cause analyses within the functional area to drive Process Improvement
  • Participates in food safety incident review and control.
  • Be the eyes and ears for management monitoring the flow and progress throughout the shift reporting any potential or actual problems
  • Encourage peer employees to maintain work areas well-organized, clean and safe with everything properly stored or staged
  • Reinforce proper safety habits including LOTO is being properly executed with peers and team
  • Support safety response actions by communicating commands from supervision and reinforcing proper emergency behavior with peers and team during an emergency event
  • Overseeing blend activity for spring mixes and insuring production is being met
  • Under direction of supervisor adjusting to issues by evaluating and moving product to balance or meet demand requirements and communicating changes through the production network.
  • Complete or consolidate assigned paperwork/labeling.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities within area of assignment
  • Serve on process improvement teams to generate change in processes and systems
  • Serves a backup for other unit positions as needed to cover for breaks, meals, and absences.
  • Employees may infrequently be assigned to perform other tasks on a temporary basis." During the temporary assignment, the employee must still maintain compliance with all plant policies but will not be disciplined for productivity- throughput performance."
  • Responsible for actively supporting the other members of the employee's work team including assisting with cross-training, new-hire/buddy assignments, and process support during breaks, meal periods, and other staff coverage as needed.
