About The Position

The Floor Care Technician performs a wide variety of duties to clean and disinfect the facility and ensure a safe environment for all patients, visitors, and staff. Work is performed independently with little to general supervision. The assignment area of coverage may change during any shift due to business needs of the department. Floor care aide operates floor sweepers, buffers, strippers, canisters vacuum cleaners and any other equipment related to a floor care position and EVS aide position.

Requirements

  • Familiar with proper floor cleaning, cleaning and disinfecting techniques
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card within 30 days of hire date (Los Angeles City Employees only)

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and restores all floor types within the organization follows the recommended floor care maintenance program for all floor types within the organization, applies correct stripping, cleaning, neutralizing, sealing, or wax solution to floor using hand-held mop or mechanical operator. Buffs floors to produce final finish using powered equipment. Performs duties including burnishing, stripping and waxing floors, buffing, steam cleaning, and other processes related to maintenance or restoration of all floor types. Documents completion of scheduled floor care maintenance.
  • Protects and preserves floor surfaces to maintain appropriate appearance and cleanliness. Mixes cleaning solution in appropriate proportions and quantities and follow manufacturer’s directions for washing floors. Operates automatic cleaning equipment to remove excess moisture and old materials from floor, following standard operating and safety procedures.
  • Re-stocks chemical station as necessary. Labels chemicals and keeps an inventory of floor areas and cleaning schedule. Maintains cleaning equipment and supplies to preserve and prepare for future use. Reports maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Ensures all check out and patient area cleaning is complete per all guidelines/procedures. Washes and wipes mattresses down, removes utensils from bedside, and ensures that all areas of bed, furniture, floors, walls, closets, restroom, etc. are cleaned per guidelines. Ensures that clean linens are put on bed, using appropriate bed making procedures. Reports needed repairs to engineering department.
  • Ensures that all non-patient areas are cleaned as assigned, to include, but not limited to, washing, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming floors, windows, fixtures, furniture, bathrooms, lights, screens, and blinds, etc. Ensures that all dispensers are filled appropriately. Reports all items needing repair or correction to the Engineering Department.
  • Takes conscious ownership for work and takes a proactive, deliberate, and thoughtful approach regarding work activities. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgement and decision making. Demonstrates excellent customer service at all times. Ensures Infection Control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
