About The Position

The Floor Care Technician performs a variety of cleaning and housekeeping tasks in assigned area(s). This role involves exhibiting courteous and cooperative behavior towards patients, families, visitors, volunteers, students, peers, and providers, anticipating service needs, and proactively resolving issues. The technician is expected to work openly and collaboratively, promote performance improvement, and follow through on statements and actions in a timely manner. They must strive for excellence, encourage discussion, adapt to different viewpoints, value diversity, and champion change. The position requires accepting responsibility for actions, optimizing time efficiently, and being a resource within the department for systems, resources, and efficient task accomplishment.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with general housekeeping, cleaning, and infection control principles.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently.
  • Must demonstrate initiative to observe and take independent action.
  • Familiarity with computer applications is required.
  • Must have technical aptitude and a willingness to learn software applications used at AVH.

  • Performs a variety of cleaning and housekeeping tasks in assigned area(s).
  • Maintains assigned areas(s) in a clean, orderly and attractive condition.
  • Responsible for conducting a scheduled and on-going floor care maintenance program.
  • Damp mops all floors daily using two stage procedures.
  • Coordinates scheduled buffing and restoration of hard flooring, maintaining a high gloss appearance.
  • Removes splatter and stains resulting from floor refinishing, leaving mop boards and lower parts of wall free of cleaning debris.
  • Maintains carpeted surfaces free of litter and thoroughly vacuumed a minimum of one time per shift, utilizing appropriate carpet cleaning procedures.
  • Sets up and breaks down meeting rooms.
  • Transports supplies and equipment between storage areas and work areas.
  • Utilizes floor machines, vacuum cleaners, ladders and other related cleaning equipment in the course of work.
  • Cleans and provides routine maintenance for all equipment at the end of shift.
  • Washes floors, walls, woodwork, and windows.
  • Checks and cleans glass doors and railings daily.
  • Schedules and documents cleaning of the large windows of first and second floor levels.
  • Cleans and polishes stainless steel components and walls/doors of elevators.
  • Assures that ventilation fans are maintained free of dust.
  • Utilizes approved chemicals, disinfectants, and detergents.
  • Collects and returns soiled linen to laundry pick-up points.
  • Delivers assorted waste products to appropriate areas.
  • Picks up and returns dishes, glassware, magazines and other misplaced items to appropriate departments and/or locations.
  • Safely handles full needle and sharps dispensers and isolation waste.
  • Supports Hospital-wide recycling program, organizing the storage and disposition of recyclable materials and goods.
  • Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to quality reviews.
  • Completes and documents all scheduled and project cleaning assignments.
  • May clean, disinfect, and restore patient discharge units or exam/clinic rooms in accordance with appropriate cleaning/disinfection health and safety standards.
  • Observes and reports unsafe conditions and maintenance needs.
  • Observes appropriate standard precaution guidelines.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude.
  • Is familiar with computer applications.
  • Is willing to learn software applications.
  • May assist with transporting patients as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.

  • Reviews e-mails at least once per shift and adheres to e-mail policy.
  • Promotes and maintains an environment which is in compliance with federal, state and local regulations, accrediting agencies, and as delineated in the Hospital Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Rotates shifts, holidays, weekends, location sites, and provides coverage to meet Hospital needs.
  • Complies with the Hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Wears proper identification (upper torso) while on duty.
