About The Position

Join our team at The Goddard School – Leesburg, VA, where we provide a premium early childhood education experience in a safe, nurturing, and dynamic environment. This dual role combines classroom support as a Resource Teacher/Floater with transportation responsibilities as a Bus Driver for our After School Program. Role Summary This position serves two key functions: Bus Driver (approx. 1 hour/day): Drive the school van to pick up children from local elementary schools and return them safely to The Goddard School. This round-trip route runs each school day afternoon. Resource Teacher / Floater (remaining hours): Support teaching and childcare across multiple classrooms as needed, filling in where faculty coverage is required throughout the day. Requirements

  • Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • CDL or eligibility to obtain one may be required depending on vehicle type (school will provide guidance).
  • Ability to pass a background check, including driving record review.
  • Demonstrates empathy and compassion for young children.
  • Dependable, adaptable, and a collaborative team player.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to support child safety and program facilitation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in early childhood education or childcare.
  • Experience transporting children or passengers professionally.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the school vehicle on the daily after school pickup route (approx. 1 hour round-trip).
  • Ensure all children are properly secured and accounted for during transport.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections per safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs and comply with all applicable traffic laws and school policies.
  • Communicate promptly with school leadership regarding any route changes, delays, or incidents.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Support children's social and emotional development across age groups.
  • Assist lead teachers with instructional activities, transitions, and daily routines.
  • Build positive, professional relationships with families.
  • Collaborate with the full faculty team and adapt to classroom needs as assigned.
