Overview Utilizes nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide comprehensive, age appropriate nursing care on all critical care and medical/surgical units for stable and critically ill patients. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and
  • Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role.
  • 2 years or more of nursing experience
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • KS or MO compact license required within 90 days of hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Direct care nurses without a BSN hired on or after September 1, 2013 are required to enroll in an academic program promptly in order to complete their BSN degree requirements within 5 years of their hire date.
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate plan of care for stable and critically ill patients and families which promotes optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meets the educational and informational needs of the stable and critically ill patient and family, utilizing appropriate principles of teaching/learning.
  • Promotes safe, efficient, family-centered care to stable and critically ill patients.
  • Delegates nursing care based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competency and patient care requirements.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and attends education programs, unit meetings and assigned committees.
