About The Position

The Float Pool RN is responsible for providing patient care using the nursing process and performing leadership and teaching duties necessary to support effective patient care. This role involves assessing patients' needs, developing and implementing care plans, and participating in continuous quality improvement activities. The RN will float to various nursing units as needed and must demonstrate clinical competency, effective communication skills, and the ability to handle a physically demanding environment. The position requires adherence to the Frederick Health mission, vision, core values, and compliance program.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in State of Maryland or compact state.
  • Associates degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred or willing to obtain within 5 years of employment.
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification for specified nursing units.
  • PALS certification for specified nursing units.
  • NRP certification for specified nursing units.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides patient care using the nursing process.
  • Assesses the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning of patients according to nursing standards.
  • Recognizes and accurately documents and communicates subtle changes in patient assessment.
  • Provides initial assessment and reassessments according to current organizational and department standards.
  • Anticipates potential changes in patient's condition and responds appropriately.
  • Ensures an effective plan of care for assigned patients based upon the standards for planning and providing care.
  • Implements plan of care in compliance with hospital and nursing policies.
  • Communicates pertinent information to patients and members of the health care team.
  • Evaluates nursing care and effectiveness of interventions.
  • Provides patient/family education and assesses learning needs.
  • Demonstrates leadership/accountability qualities.
  • Floats to other nursing units in the hospital as requested.
