Overview Utilizes nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide comprehensive, age appropriate nursing care for assigned patients on a variety of medical/surgical inpatient nursing units. Assists with the shift supervision of nonprofessional personnel as necessary. The Inpatient Float Pool provides a unique opportunity to work with a variety of pediatric patients in a variety of units. We fill in staffing gaps wherever they occur, finding out where we are assigned to work a few hours before the start of each shift. Inpatient Float Pool includes: Medical/Surgical Float Pool (RNs, CAs & PSTs) 1 Hall 4 West 4 Henson/Hall 4 Sutherland 5 Henson/Hall 5 Sutherland 6 Henson 6 Hall Children's Mercy Kansas Inpatient Low-acuity patients in the NICU Low-acuity patients in the Adele Hall Emergency Department and Children's Mercy Kansas Emergency Department ED Boarding At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcomed within our walls. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree ADN Required. Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training or Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Nurses hired after this date without a BSN, must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provide Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meets the educational needs of the patient and family, utilizing appropriate principles of teaching/learning.
  • Promotes safe, efficient, family-centered care.
  • Delegates nursing care based on knowledge of staff qualifications/competency and patient care requirements.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and attends education programs, unit meetings and assigned committees.
