About The Position

The Float Outpatient Phlebotomist position at YNHHS is a vital role within the Lab Outreach department, primarily responsible for performing phlebotomy for patients at various draw station locations. This position operates under the general supervision of the Lab Blood Draw Station Supervisor and requires a commitment to the organization's vision, mission, and values, which include integrity, patient-centered care, respect, accountability, and compassion. The phlebotomist will interact consistently with patients and clients, ensuring a positive experience while adhering to all relevant guidelines and protocols. In this role, the phlebotomist will be tasked with obtaining necessary information from referring physicians and providers to facilitate reimbursement for services. This includes accurately reviewing insurance information, creating medical record numbers for new patients, and updating established patient records in the hospital's electronic health record system. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for producing necessary financial documents, communicating instructions to patients regarding their lab draws, and ensuring all pre-authorizations and certifications are in place prior to specimen collection. The position requires a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures, including the verification of laboratory tests ordered, the collection of specimens, and the maintenance of accurate documentation. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and participating in regulatory inspections. Additionally, the role involves managing the logistics of specimen transport and ensuring the integrity of collected samples from the point of collection to the testing laboratory. The Float Outpatient Phlebotomist must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask, and a commitment to service excellence. This position is per diem and does not offer benefits, requiring flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
