About The Position

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of healthcare providers. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR. Prepares exam rooms for examination of patients as well as stocking them. Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for certain procedures. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Performs EKG's, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc. Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous). Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc. Must have effective communication skills and instruct patients and/or their family as directed by the provider. Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality. Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records. May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e., assist with patient check-in). Perform blood draws competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible. Medical Assistants are responsible for assisting patients with mobility and transport needs within the clinical setting. Duties include helping patients in and out of wheelchairs or exam tables, escorting or transporting patients to various areas, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. Medical Assistants are expected to monitor patients during transport for signs of distress, maintain the cleanliness of transport equipment, and provide emotional support when necessary.

Requirements

  • Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate; OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by leadership.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
  • This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods. It involves a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients and equipment. Medical Assistants must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds and assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds. The role also includes regular exposure to bodily fluids and demands of adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.
