About The Position

Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. We hire people that are skilled and passionate to meet our mission to end homelessness through outcome-based strategies which support personal and community transformation. The Float Medical Assistant (MA) plays a critical role in patient care for all of our Primary Care Clinics. This role will support providers and patients at Blackburn, Evergreen, and Old Town Clinics depending on where they are needed to cover vacancies. The role will float between clinic locations at Blackburn, Old Town Clinic, and Evergreen Crossing. This position has access to mental health billing and service records. Schedule: Monday - Friday, shift times vary but fall within 7:30am - 5:00pm Locations: Blackburn (12121 E Burnside St. Portland, OR 97216) Old Town Clinic (727 W Burnside St. Portland, OR 97209) and Evergreen Crossing (8225 NE Wasco St. Portland, OR, 97220) Compensation: $23.43 per hour for non-certified MAs and $27.40 per hour for certified MAs. Seniority Bid Window Closes: 9/4/25.

Requirements

  • High School or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent, verifiable medical assistant experience within a health care setting, with a behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Completion of a Certificate-level Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational programs (CAAHEP), such as AAMA or NCCT, is preferred.
  • Must meet CCC privileging requirements as required by FTCA.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Previous experience working with underserved populations, specifically people without stable housing, preferred.
  • Must have current BLS certification prior to start date.
  • Must have the ability to read labels and distinguish between colors.
  • Must be physically able to walk, bend, stoop, be on feet for long periods of time, twist, kneel, reach, squat, pull, lift heavy patients or objects and climb stairs several times a day.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background check.
  • Must adhere to agency's non-discrimination policies.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively interact with co-workers and patients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles and sexual orientations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient flow, including preparation for pre-visit huddle with clinical team, including chart review for immunizations, screenings, chronic conditions, mental health issues.
  • Prepare patients per standard workflow, including collection, documentation and reporting of patient's vital signs per clinic protocols.
  • Complete preventive screening questions.
  • Medication reconciliation with patients.
  • Exam room stocking and setup pre-visit and clean-up post-visit.
  • Complete and document provider orders.
  • Assist providers and care team in scheduling of medical referrals.
  • Administer injectable medications per provider order, with appropriate documentation according to clinic protocols.
  • Maintain medical/lab equipment and records in compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.
  • Depending upon location, maintain and clean supply rooms, exam rooms and MA work stations.
  • Receive, document and direct patient telephone calls in a complete and timely manner according to protocols.
  • Complete and document procedures per provider orders and clinic standards.
  • Contact pharmacies with new prescriptions and refills.
  • Maintain a clean, safe clinic environment, respecting scope of practice and clinic best-practice.
  • Complete any care team duties delegated by Care Team Manager, Care Coordinator and/or Admissions Supervisor.
  • Attend all mandatory CCC trainings in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, and to CCC policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.
  • Support compliance with all privacy and security requirements pursuant to community partners' and outside providers' patient confidentiality agreements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
