About the position

Canvas Inc. is seeking a Flight Test Engineer to support the TMAS II AEDC contract at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA. This role involves leading developmental test and evaluation planning, coordinating testing roles, and facilitating communication between various teams to ensure successful flight testing and performance assessment of military systems.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate and lead developmental test & evaluation planning and oversight at VSFB for flight testing.
  • Assist mission thread leads in managing and coordinating testing roles and responsibilities within test planning teams (TPTs).
  • Coordinate integration and communication between Sentinel CTF, SPO, and Prime Contractor.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to plan, test, analyze, and report through multiple program acquisition phases.
  • Develop, review, and execute test plans for VSFB flight testing, including Mk21A integration.
  • Decompose test requirements into test objectives, evaluation criteria, and required resources for system level tests.
  • Support the use of Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) applications and agile techniques in T&E of the weapon system.
  • Support the development of test requirements and detailed integration test plans, test procedures, and technical review boards.
  • Coordinate with VSFB range safety personnel for flight test planning and execution decisions.
  • Oversee qualification and acceptance testing activities at VSFB for cables, destruct systems, and telemetry systems.
  • Support integration and advancement of government assessment tools.
  • Author independent assessments of contractor test results.
  • Assess test support and systems integration progress and trends, identifying problems and areas of concern.
  • Maintain cognizance of all assigned CTF/Test Team engineering activities.
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Integrated Test Teams (ITTs) as appropriate.
  • Manage unit access to safes, IT equipment lists, and COMSEC responsibilities.
  • Serve as a test team participant in the development of overall plans such as the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree and at least six years direct work experience or four years direct experience; a Master of Science degree is desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise in flight test methodologies, test planning, and test conduct.
  • Knowledge of Vandenberg range requirements (Range Safety, 576 FLTS, Frequency clearance, etc.).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively alone, unsupervised, or within a group.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Focused adherence to safety and security requirements.
  • Experience with on-board test equipment instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing.
  • Familiarity with CONOPS for booster and post boost vehicle processing.
  • Previous work experience in a Lead Developmental Test and Evaluation Organization (LDTO) or Operational Test Organization (OTO).
  • Familiarity with ICBM weapon systems and related subsystems/equipment.
  • Knowledge of test & evaluation planning and processes consistent with DoD acquisition directives.
  • Experience in flight test data analysis/evaluation, modeling and simulation, and technical report preparation.
  • Ability to analyze GPS and telemetry data requirements for missile performance accuracy.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
