Flight Paramedics provide advanced medical care to patients. Individuals must have the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Flight Paramedics may need to assist and give direction to additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Responders at the scene and/or during transport. Individuals will provide emergency care to patients using the Sanford AirMed helicopter, fixed wing, and ground vehicles to ensure optimal patient care according to standards and the Sanford commitments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Associate degree in paramedic technology or paramedicine preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Paramedic Training Program required for licensing.
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a paramedic on a busy Advanced Life Support Ambulance service required.
  • Thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices and techniques.
  • National registry status as a Paramedic required.
  • State license or additional licensures as required.
  • Paramedic (PAR) Certification.
  • National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 completed.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Certifications (FP-C, CFRN, CCRN, CTRN, CEN, RNC) required within two years of hire.
  • Experience in trauma and medical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency care to patients using the Sanford AirMed helicopter, fixed wing, and ground vehicles.
  • Assist and give direction to additional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Responders at the scene and/or during transport.
  • Administer emergency care and treatment and determine the nature and extent of illness or injury.
  • Establish priority for required emergency care based on patient assessment.
  • Constantly assess the patient while in route to the emergency facility.
  • Maintain communication with the receiving facility to get medical direction and provide patient's status.
  • Complete extensive written documentation on patient condition and treatment provided.
  • Assist with patient care in the receiving facility, including lifting and moving patients.
  • Attend training classes to maintain national certification and state licensure.
  • Assist with teaching and educating other first responders in patient care and air ambulance safety courses.
