The flight nurse functions as a member of the critical care transport team and is responsible for the care of the critically ill and injured patients transported by the Flight Program. The flight nurse functions in the field and hospital environments after an extensive orientation. Responsibilities include patient care that incorporates advanced assessment, stabilization and intervention skills working under standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. Use of these protocols and standards may require independent judgment if immediate contact with the Medical Director is unavailable.

  • Provide care for critically ill and injured patients during transport.
  • Function in both field and hospital environments.
  • Perform advanced assessment, stabilization, and intervention skills.
  • Work under standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director.
  • Exercise independent judgment when immediate contact with the Medical Director is unavailable.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years critical care experience or emergency department experience.
  • Georgia Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Advanced Trauma Certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification.
  • CAMTS Standards Certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent.
  • TNCC or TNAT certification.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS must be provided by AHA or ARC.
  • NRP Advanced certification provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics if program provides high risk OB and/or neonatal transports.
  • Current Georgia nursing certification.
  • Advanced certification as a CFRN or CTRN within 2 years of hire.
  • Must complete annual competency tests.
