About The Position

The Flight Nurse I Float position at Air Methods is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care during the transport of critical patients. This role involves assessment, triage, and treatment in accordance with established medical standards, ensuring safety throughout the transport process. The nurse will support multiple Clinical Flight Teams across various bases, maintaining flexibility and availability for scheduled shifts while adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations.
  • Pre-hospital experience preferred.
  • One year of full-time flight experience required.
  • Current RN License(s) for states of practice; compact license preferred.
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations.
  • Current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS as required by state or county regulations.
  • Specialty certification (CFRN, CCRN, or CEN) required.
  • Advanced Trauma Course certification (TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC, or CAMTS approved course) required.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including 24-hour shifts and on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until patient care is transferred to the accepting medical facility, ensuring thorough documentation.
  • Maintain competency in nursing knowledge and skills through ongoing education and training, including documentation of required certifications and training.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies, reporting any failures and maintaining cleanliness onboard the aircraft.
  • Participate in pre-mission briefings and assist in mission debriefings, completing necessary documentation and safety checklists.
  • Serve as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric personnel during specialty patient transports, performing advanced skills as approved by medical directors.
  • Engage in patient follow-up and outreach education activities, contributing to the overall mission of Air Methods.
  • Act as a preceptor for new employees and students, communicating program goals and objectives.
  • Participate in company meetings, activities, and committees, including opportunities for research and publishing.
