About The Position

The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity, through our IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program, for Flight Line Mechanic Apprentice in the Puget Sound region in Washington State! This comprehensive 4-year training program consists of 8,000 hours of paid on-the-job training and essential classroom education, designed to equip you with the skills needed to excel. The program begins with a 20% probationary period, allowing you to acclimate to the role while gaining valuable hands-on experience. You will attend school for at least 144 unpaid hours per school year (four hours each week), registered through a local Community and Technical College. Your wages as an apprentice will be defined in Article 17 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the International Association of Machinists District 751 and The Boeing Company, with progression to a higher wage step for every 1,000 hours of recorded on-the-job training until completion. Upon graduation, you will be placed in the target job at the maximum rate and receive a journey-worker certificate and card recognized worldwide. As a Flight Line Mechanic Apprentice, you will learn the skills to be essential in performing a variety of maintenance tasks on aircraft structures and systems, where attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount. You will learn to be responsible for troubleshooting and inspecting aircraft to ensure they are flight-ready, while meticulously documenting all processes to maintain compliance with industry regulations. A Color Vision Certification may be necessary for portions of this job. Requirements

  • Applicants must not have previously enrolled in or completed an IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship program.
  • For English and/or math assessments, please include your assessment score and the corresponding course placement results (course number and title).
  • Proficiency in math and English must be verified through one of the following: Completing Intermediate Algebra or a higher-level math course within the last 5 years. Completion of an English 90 course or assessment with a grade of C or better.
  • Qualification for Blueprint Reading and Precision Measuring Tools: You can meet the qualifications through one of the following methods, which will be verified via your resume, work history, and transcripts: Vocational Courses: Basic Blueprint Reading or equivalent Basic Precision Measuring Tools or equivalent Basic Electricity or Basic Electronics Vocational Degrees and Certificates: Aviation Maintenance Technology Certificate
  • A minimum of one year of work experience in a similar field, such as: Electronics (Assy., Repair) Certified A & P Mechanic Hydraulics (Installation, Repair) Operational Systems Trouble Shooting of Systems Software Applications Trouble Shooting Structures Mechanic Assembler Installer Assembler Electric Systems Aircraft Test Technician Fuel Cell Assy
  • Experience doing jobs or tasks where you had to apply math skills such as algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry
  • Experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings
  • Experience with using electrical or electronic precision measuring tools and equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, oscilloscopes
  • Basic understanding Electricity/Electronics
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • High School Graduate or the equivalent. Proof of successful completion is required.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Responsibilities

  • Perform production installations, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and alterations on aircraft structures, systems, and sub-systems, including electrical and avionics, for both standard and experimental certificated aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, test, repair, and service aircraft and engine systems to prepare them for flight, documenting any nonconforming materials or components according to established specifications and procedures.
  • Conduct audits and surveillance of manufacturing and quality assurance processes, performing quality functions such as customer/FAA coordination, configuration change verification, conformity inspections, and airworthiness inspections.
  • Utilize technical specifications, sketches, manuals, and FAA publications to complete work assignments effectively.
  • Maintain company and FAA-required records and inspection forms while ensuring a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Plan and organize work packages to promote safe and efficient operations, meeting predetermined schedules.
  • Operate various information systems, including company web-based systems and Microsoft Office products, to perform assigned tasks.
  • Interpret and adhere to airworthiness directives, service bulletins, and other approved data.
  • Apply mathematical calculations to set up and use precision measuring tools for accurate measurements.
  • Create production aids to facilitate work assignments as needed.
  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses, and permits for assigned work.
  • Exchange information with suppliers, customers, or company representatives to explain or demonstrate operations and tests.
