The Flight Follower is responsible for monitoring the operation of Company flights, ensuring that all operationally pertinent data is recorded and that the Pilot in Command (PIC) is provided with necessary information for safe flight operations. This role involves collecting and analyzing weather data, checking field conditions, and ensuring compliance with operational policies and procedures. The Flight Follower must maintain communication with various departments to facilitate the efficient and safe operation of flights.

  • Obtain weather, present conditions, and future trends affecting operations.
  • Check the System Operations Control Turnover Log and company manuals for current instructions and policies.
  • Check field conditions and NOTAMs for current conditions of en route and terminal facilities.
  • Load required information to AERODATA for the required TLR.
  • Discuss operational plans with the relieving Flight Follower.
  • Review the MEL / CDL database in NavBlue and verify against Maintenance form 21A-MF-051.
  • Generate a CFP and verify its accuracy before forwarding to the flight crew.
  • Verify proper fuel loads for flights and notify personnel/vendors of fuel requirements.
  • Ensure flights are planned within structural and performance limitations.
  • Verify compliance with RVSM airspace requirements.
  • Record flight releases after ensuring all information is provided to the PIC.
  • Monitor the progress of flights during the shift.
  • Stay current and qualified in Company Flight Release Procedures and related regulations.
  • Coordinate with departments regarding crewmember availability and positioning.
  • Coordinate with Customer Representatives and Ground Service/Handling Representatives for schedule changes.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control regarding aircraft availability and maintenance status.
  • Obtain landing rights, overfly permits, and review operational curfews.
  • Facilitate safe 'on-time' operation of flights with necessary stations.
  • Log all required information in the Daily Log.
  • Keep the Flight Tracking Report current.
  • Issue information to stations about delays, equipment changes, and cancellations.
  • Notify appropriate agencies of irregularities in ground or navigational facilities.
  • Evaluate airports for suitability including station facilities.
  • Knowledge of aviation regulations and operational control processes.
  • Experience in flight operations or a related field.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret weather data.
  • Familiarity with flight planning and release procedures.
  • Previous experience as a Flight Follower or in a similar role.
  • Certification in aviation management or related field.
  • Experience with NavBlue or similar flight planning software.
