About The Position

The Flex Security Officer at the Port of Tacoma is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the port area, its personnel, and properties. This role involves enforcing laws and regulations, conducting patrols, monitoring access, and responding to incidents. Officers are authorized to carry firearms and must engage in various security-related activities to maintain a secure environment for port operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from an accredited law enforcement or security academy required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience as a security or police officer (civilian or military).
  • Training and experience in the safe and proper use of firearms required.
  • Valid Washington State Driver License and a valid State of Washington License to Carry a Concealed Pistol required.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all applicable port security-related federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Execute Port of Tacoma security duties encompassing physical security of all port areas and waterways.
  • Monitor and control access in/out of Port facilities at assigned hours.
  • Conduct patrol and surveillance of the Port of Tacoma and neighboring industrial communities.
  • Execute command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) duties at control center.
  • Maintain safety and security of all employees, labor, and other waterfront stakeholders.
  • Patrol the Port of Tacoma waterfront by foot, vehicle, and electronically.
  • Oversee public safety and environmental and maritime-related safety regulations.
  • Support maintenance of free flow of commerce and produce a safe and secure environment.
  • Prevent transportation security incidents, security breaches, and crime within assigned port areas.
  • Take proper action at the scene of transportation security and criminal incidents.
  • Conduct initial traffic, accident, and other port security-related investigations.
  • Execute surveillance of operations terminals and cargo storage areas.
  • Enforce vehicle and pedestrian traffic control and report hazards to authorities.
  • Initiate and submit daily reports covering port security and shift activities.
