About The Position

Our Fleet Management team is a critical function that ensures the safety and reliability of Nuro’s autonomous vehicle platforms on public roads, and a critical contributor to maturing our autonomous technology. The Fleet Technician role is a mid-level position requiring technical and mechanical experience. As a Fleet Technician, you will be responsible for the hardware and software across all Nuro fleet vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher in any related field or equivalent experience (computer science, engineering, etc…)
  • Clean driving record
  • Proficiency in Linux (role requires understanding/writing code)
  • Able perform hands-on hardware integration, testing, and validation to support autonomous vehicle systems and software-hardware interfaces
  • Able to analyze and resolve complex hardware-software interactions in robotic vehicle systems; support design improvements and system optimization
  • Proactive and task-driven with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-focused with a passion for continuous learning
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business

  • Automotive, Robotics, IT, or technical training/certification
  • Electrical troubleshooting with knowledge of schematics use
  • Experience with diagnostics on vehicle platforms

  • Truck and Trailer driving experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement hardware–software system improvements that increase fleet reliability, safety, and performance
  • Perform advanced systems analysis to identify root causes of complex software and hardware interactions across autonomous platforms
  • Develop and maintain Linux-based software tools, scripts, and automation frameworks to monitor, diagnose, and optimize fleet performance
  • Develop command line interface tooling, automation scripting
  • Contribute to architectural decisions for current and future autonomous vehicle platforms
  • Act as a technical lead for fleet-related initiatives, collaborating with Software, Hardware, Safety, Operations, and Product teams
  • Evaluate trade-offs and make independent recommendations on technical approaches, tooling, and system design
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, policies, and best practices adopted across fleet operations
  • Comply to 5S methodology to sustain an organized and safe work environment
  • Develop playbooks to support sustaining autonomous vehicle operations on public roads
  • Design and document new engineering and operating processes that improve scalability and AV system robustness
  • Author and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and decision records
  • Serve as a subject expert regarding technical escalations for complex or novel fleet issues
  • Provide expert guidance during systems-level incident investigations
  • Documenting the life cycle of vehicle assets in our fleet management system
