About The Position

Maintain a safe fleet of vehicles at the Regional Food Bank.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 21 years old and a high school or equivalency diploma.
  • A valid New York State Class B CDL drivers license and seven or more years of experience with class 7 and 8 trucks including the ability to diagnose/troubleshoot problems with trucks and trailers.
  • Experience repairing 53' trailers.
  • Must have experience with mig and stick welders.
  • Must provide own hand tools.
  • Must possess good customer skills and have the temperment and interpersonal skills to train other Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all safety policies and procedures to ensure a clean and safe working environment for all employees, volunteers and visitors.
  • Become knowledegeable on all aspects of preventive maintenance for all vehicle systems.
  • Performs advanced diagnostic operations to successfully diagnose vehicle systems failures and accurate repair.
  • Examines vehicles to determine the extent of damage or malfuntions.
  • Adjusts, removes and replaces clutches and drivelines.
  • Overhauls, troubleshoots and repairs diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pindle hooks, auxiliary axles and frames.
  • Performs tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushings.
  • Performs basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • Files, grinds, sands and smooths filled or repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
  • Removes uphostery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicles bodies and fenders.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  • Performs inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs routine and scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
  • Replairs, relines, replaces and adjusts brakes air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrcal systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air counditioning, PTO's and custom exhaust systems.
  • Tests drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
  • Trains other Technicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
