About The Position

The Fleet Support Specialist position at NCDOT is responsible for coordinating equipment needs for user departments, monitoring equipment utilization, and providing trend analysis and reports. The role involves supervising employees, assisting with equipment purchases and sales, and ensuring safety training and audits are conducted. The specialist will also respond to emergency situations and create a positive work environment through effective communication.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in mechanical engineering technology, automotive systems technology, diesel vehicle maintenance, heavy equipment and transport technology, or related technical degree.
  • Four (4) years of progressive experience in a large equipment fleet, automotive or heavy equipment repair shop, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of operation principles of an equipment fleet and maintenance tools.
  • Ability to implement innovative support systems for vehicle/equipment repairs.
  • Ability to investigate and diagnose vehicle/equipment malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of budgetary and cost impact on fleet operation.
  • Knowledge of SAP functionality related to work orders and data management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with emergency response situations after normal work hours.
  • Strong communication skills to create a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Equipment Area Superintendent to obtain needed equipment for user departments.
  • Transfer intra and inter-divisional equipment to meet Division needs.
  • Monitor and report utilization of rental equipment and analyze reports in SAP.
  • Provide trend analysis and reports to the Superintendent.
  • Monitor and report monthly shop safety audits according to NCDOT policy.
  • Recommend equipment safety training for the Division Equipment Unit.
  • Supervise employees and complete yearly performance reviews.
  • Assist Superintendent with annual equipment buys, surplus sales, and auctions.
  • Manage new equipment acceptance and schedule operator training.
  • Assist with all duties assigned by the Superintendent, including surplus equipment sales and tracking utilization.
