About the position

The Fleet Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the fleet maintenance operations for over 600 vehicles and equipment valued at more than $25 million. This role involves supervising employees, coordinating shop activities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and maintaining high-quality service in vehicle repair and maintenance. The supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Fleet Manager and is expected to exercise independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate shop activities for fleet maintenance operations.
  • Review work in progress and inspect completed work for quality control.
  • Schedule repairs and maintenance for all assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Advise management on vehicle and equipment replacement versus repair.
  • Maintain and update logs, records, and files related to fleet operations.
  • Enforce safety rules and ensure no lost time accidents occur.
  • Provide input into departmental objectives and long-range plans.
  • Ensure technical expertise and career development of employees.
  • Create a positive work environment and address employee relations issues.
  • Respond to customer concerns and complaints professionally and timely.
  • Conduct interviews, hiring, promotions, and performance reviews of staff.
  • Prioritize work based on project requirements and resource utilization.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two-year accredited university/college or technical school with a degree/certification in automotive/mechanical technology or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance/repair of gasoline/diesel vehicles/equipment, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Alternatively, graduation from high school with a minimum of six years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in a large automotive repair facility.
  • Knowledge of supervisory concepts and practices.
