Join the Department of Transportation as a Fleet Services Technician. Under general supervision, inspects, services, lubricates, cleans and fuels County motor pool vehicles; schedules and dispatches motor pool vehicles and maintains records; maintains parts inventory; repairs, maintains, and fabricates work as assigned, and performs basic office duties. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to perform preventive maintenance work on the County's automotive fleet; inspect, add and/or change fluid levels in brake, steering, and other systems; inspect vehicles for operating condition and safety problems; coordinate mandatory safety inspections; troubleshoot and complete minor repairs, and report problems to mechanics. Additional responsibilities include changing fuel, oil, and air filters; inspecting and replacing belts, hoses, bulbs, wipers and other parts; testing, adding fluids, replacing and/or changing batteries, starters, and alternators; troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems; scheduling and dispatching vehicles to user departments; documenting service requests and problems; maintaining an inventory of parts, supplies, and accessories; and preparing and maintaining various records such as vehicle usage, mileage, service, and repairs.
