About The Position

The Fleet Services Automotive Specialist I - Light-Duty position resides in the Fleet Services Department providing journey-level maintenance, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of light-duty cars and trucks up to one (1) ton. Accountable for activities and ensures services comply with written procedures and industry standards. This classification differs from the Fleet Services Automotive Specialist III which leads and may supervise assigned staff and is responsible for more complex activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate AND two years of experience maintaining and repairing light-duty gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks up to one (1) ton.
  • One year with Pima County in a Fleet Services Automotive Technician I (Light-Duty) position.
  • Valid driver license is at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum four (4) years within the last seven (7) years of experience performing skilled technician duties including the diagnosis and repair of gasoline engines, automatic transmission/transaxle, suspension and steering, brake systems, fuel injection systems, electrical systems, heating, and air conditioning systems.
  • Experience with/knowledge of fleet maintenance or repair.
  • Experience with/knowledge of using various software applications such as a fleet management system, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • ASE certifications in Automotive Series or ADEQ Emission certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on light-duty gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks up to one (1) ton
  • Conducts daily inspections of the service bay ensuring a clean and safe work environment
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
  • Operates tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
  • Inspects and replaces electrical components such as batteries, light bulbs, and switches
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and updating systems
  • Updates vehicle repair and maintenance records using electronic fleet management software
  • Complies with state vehicle emission program standards
  • Upfits vehicles with auxiliary equipment such as emergency lighting, winches, and toolboxes
  • Performs complex repairs on light-duty gas, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks up to one (1) ton
  • Performs vehicle diagnostic troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoots complex electrical systems
  • Coaches/mentors junior level technicians
