About The Position

The Fleet Service Manager – Autonomous Vehicles is responsible for leading and inspiring a team of 10 to 100 vehicle technicians tasked with maintaining and repairing a growing fleet of autonomous vehicles (“robotaxis”). This role aims to exceed operational objectives, control costs, and develop a high-performing team. Above all, the manager will ensure that repairs are completed according to the client’s service expectations while collaborating with AutoNation teammates in a positive, innovative work environment. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in vehicle repair at an automotive service center or as a fleet operator.
  • Experience managing a team of 25 or more vehicle technicians, with varying levels of skill and training.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage simultaneous initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience working with partners, vendors, or large accounts.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to interpret KPIs, identify trends, and drive operational decisions.
  • Proficiency with scheduling platforms, CRM/operations systems, and standard office software.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of service center operations and augmenting work schedule as need to support maintenance operations over several shifts covering a 24/7 operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field.
  • ASE certifications.
  • Electric or autonomous vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Familiarity with Google suite of office products such as Gmail, chat, and video conferencing.
  • Background in partner programs, insurance networks, or vendor management.
  • Understanding of logistics, dispatching, or field technician workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Working to exceed operational objectives, control costs, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Ensuring that repairs are completed according to our client’s service expectations while collaborating with AutoNation teammates in a positive, innovative work environment.
  • Establishing work priorities and monitoring key performance indicators to measure the success of fleet maintenance operations, while implementing data-driven strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborating with client leadership to align on operational goals and strategies, and acting as a key liaison between the client and AutoNation.
  • Providing recommendations for improving the maintenance and administration of their fleet of autonomous vehicles (“Robotaxis”).
  • Ensuring all work orders are closed accurately and in a timely manner while adhering to SOPs and all AutoNation and client company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintaining reporting systems required by AutoNation and client.
  • Understanding and complying with federal, state, and local regulations that affect fleet maintenance and repair operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with all SOPs, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Supporting leadership by identifying operational gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensuring operations run consistently over several shifts covering a 24/7 work schedule.
  • Tracking and analyzing KPIs related to service operations and partner programs, including Service Level Agreements, Technician efficiency, Technician utilization, and Partner-specific performance metrics.
  • Representing your assigned service center in weekly and monthly performance updates for leadership and partners.
  • Using data to drive process improvements, reduce friction, and enhance service delivery.
  • Working closely with HR, Finance, Training, and Field Operations teams.
  • Partnering with HR and Internal Training Teams, Training vendors to onboard technicians and maintain readiness for future needs.
  • Reviewing customer and partner feedback to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Supporting initiatives that increase partner satisfaction, retention, and program expansion.
  • Delivering weekly/monthly business reviews displaying operational excellence and transparency for the managed services AutoNation provides.
  • Evaluating workflows and operational processes to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Recommending and implementing enhancements to scheduling, communication, routing, and technician management.
  • Supporting pilot programs, process rollouts, and technology initiatives that improve service performance and quality.
  • Leading and developing a team of up to 10 direct reports and approximately 150 indirect reports across multiple service functions.
  • Providing ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to direct reports to strengthen leadership capability and drive high performing teams.
  • Conducting regular performance reviews, setting clear expectations, and creating individualized development plans to support employee growth and organizational goals.
  • Maintaining a bench of high performers for promotions to ensure business continuity and succession planning.
