JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction, performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of gasoline and diesel-powered fleet vehicles, including Emergency vehicles and equipment. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: · Performs work in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of gasoline and diesel-powered fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. · Uses an electronic engine analyzer and related diagnostic equipment to identify problems. · Repair, adjust, or replace major and minor vehicle or equipment components, including air conditioning systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, electronic systems, fuel systems, drive trains, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, fuel pumps, starter motors, alternators, switches, and batteries. · Repair, rotate, mount, and balance tires. · Respond to requests for emergency road service; make emergency repairs in the field; test drive vehicles; clean work areas and related shop facilities. · May perform gas and electric welding and metal fabrication. · Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of fleet maintenance equipment; safety practices and procedures; welding techniques and procedures. Ability to utilize or operate standard mechanical tools and equipment, and diagnose equipment malfunctions. Skilled in the operation of welding equipment and the operation of cutting torches. OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The typical schedule is Monday – Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. There are scheduled breaks during the workday along with a scheduled lunch break. There are times when mandatory overtime is required. On-site training is provided.
