About The Position

Mechanics play an important role in ensuring proper performance, safety and reliability of vehicles and ground service equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Must be able to speak and hear efficiently;
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to manipulate multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines at once;
  • Knowledge of fluid types, diesel powered machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance;
  • Must have own set of basic tools including sockets/wrenches up-to 1 inch in size and up to a ½ inch drive;
  • Maintain and treat all information as confidential;
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English;
  • Must be able to verbally direct in English;
  • Possess the tact to deal with all levels of employees and client representatives;
  • Proven knowledge and use of standard and specialty tools and specialized testing equipment (i.e. photo tachometer, diagnostics tools and hardware, scanners and meters);
  • General Mechanical skills:
  • Oil changes, filters, grease jobs;
  • Mechanical Inspections:
  • Belts, tires, fluid levels, hoses, wiring (for damage / loose connections).
  • Suspension Inspections / Greasing / Repair
  • Basic Engine troubleshooting / repair
  • Basic Transmission / Driveline troubleshooting and repair
  • Automotive wiring and troubleshooting (chassis)
  • Brake inspections / replacement
  • Hydraulics:
  • Basic System diagram reading;
  • Basic knowledge and troubleshooting;
  • Fluid and filter replacements.
  • Electrical
  • Basic System Diagram Reading;
  • Basic knowledge and troubleshooting.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for local maintenance scheduling and performance to ensure equipment dependability;
  • Perform all duties of a skilled maintenance technician following recognized procedures for such work, as required;
  • Ability to read and use maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other related maintenance documents to complete work assignments;
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic problems and resolve within an established timeframe;
  • Cooperate with General Manager/Regional Maintenance Manager to implement policies governing company equipment maintenance;
  • Advise General Manager/Regional Maintenance Manager of matters deserving attention regarding equipment repairs;
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records and conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections on equipment;
  • Conduct spot checks on equipment and tools to keep in a safe and operational condition at all times;
  • Consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance;
  • Be an active part of the maintenance team through presentation of ideas for improvement, participation in meetings, assisting others at locations and responding to all requests/inquiries;
  • Actively promote and personally observe safety practices and programs, and use equipment and materials properly. Work in a safe manner and lead by example in the context of performing the functions of this position;
  • Utilize company Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) to log work orders, track parts usage, and store records;
  • Participate in maintenance audits with management;
  • Perform all assigned maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Preventative maintenance (Fluid and filter changes, greasing, etc.)
  • Inspections (Belts, tires, fluid levels, hoses, etc.)
  • Basic Mechanical Troubleshooting and Repairs (Suspension, Engine, Transmission, Automotive wiring, Braking systems, etc.)
  • Basic Hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting and repairs
  • Communicate daily with team members to ensure that all are informed about equipment status and expected outcome from next shift on maintenance items that are outstanding;
  • Attend and participate in all training with members of the maintenance workforce;
  • Identify and order parts and materials to sustain proper inventory;
  • Must be observant of daily weather predictions and operations plans to be prepared for immediate business needs that may include responding to location during off shift hours;
  • Promote consistent reinforcement and adherence to company mission, values and purpose to instill the core beliefs of this organization;
  • Foster an environment where maintenance, operations and corporate staff work together for the success of the maintenance department and the company;
  • Assure that the maintenance location is kept clean and safe through safety compliant methods as prescribed within safety and security procedures and programs;
  • Compliance with all applicable environmental laws and permits;
  • Other duties as assigned.
