About The Position

Responsible for diagnosing and repairing school vehicles and equipment, performing preventive maintenance, locating and ordering parts, communicating with vendors on parts pricing and warranties, prioritizing work orders, cleaning and maintaining the shop and parts areas, assisting in developing bus maintenance programs, assisting in driver training, attending workshops and training classes and driving school bus routes as needed. Frequency Perform all responsibilities involved in the maintenance and repair of school vehicles and equipment, including diagnosis, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repairs. D Complete all vehicle maintenance records and documents to comply with Federal and State Regulations. D Locate, order, purchase and pick-up parts. D Prioritize work orders. D Maintain a clean, safe and organized shop. Perform duties in a safe manner. D Assure the District shop, vehicles and equipment meet or exceed Federal and State Standards, including, but not limited to, OSHA, DOT, EPA and CDE. D Establish and maintain effective communication with transportation staff, administrators and users. D Oversee the safe disposal of hazardous materials. D Maintain shop equipment in good working order. D Secure shop by locking doors and turning lights off after each shift. D Clean and maintain parts shelves and bins. W Conduct CDE annual safety inspections of all District pupil transportation vehicles. M Communicate with vendors regarding parts pricing and warranties. M Assist in developing bus maintenance program. M Respond to emergency calls and off-hour emergencies. Determine nature of problem and complete necessary repairs. AsN Assist Driver Trainers with mechanical input. AsN Assist with snow removal. AsN Perform welding and machine work incidental to the completion of repair work. AsN Attend safety meetings, workshops and training classes as directed. AsN Drive school bus routes as needed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus ASE courses in heavy duty brake systems, commercial vehicle air brake systems, suspension/steering, diesel engines, preventive maintenance inspections and gasoline engines
  • Commercial Driver License - must obtain within 90 days, on-the-job training provided through the district
  • annual CDE inspector certification must be obtained within 1 year (free)
  • 1 year mechanical experience on diesel
