About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic position at La Plata County involves performing a variety of preventative and corrective maintenance on County vehicles and equipment. This role requires a valid driver's license and a background check. The position is full-time with a pay rate of $29.28 per hour. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of specialized training in the field.
  • Minimum of two years experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Valid State Driver's License (CDL Class B preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in the repair and maintenance of County vehicles and equipment including engine and drive train overhaul and repair.
  • Repair electrical components such as starters and alternators.
  • Install bearings, brakes, seals, and repair hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose fuel, ignition, electrical, and power train malfunctions using computer scanners and electrical testing equipment.
  • Install and maintain emergency equipment on sheriff's patrol and investigation vehicles.
  • Read wiring schematics to install, repair, and remove accessories on emergency response vehicles.
  • Perform major and minor tune-up procedures on County vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on County vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain records, work orders, and notes for each job and repair done on County vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate equipment as necessary to road test vehicles or bring them into the shop.
  • Assist in ordering parts and supplies.
  • Perform minor body and fender repairs and painting work.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
