About The Position

Shepherd Oil Company is a family-owned company that places great value on each person in our company. This person will have a position of leadership within this company and exceptional professionalism and integrity is expected. Coordinate the operation and logistical functions of the transportation division. Expected to be highly skilled in the daily processes and activities involved in fleet maintenance and organization in the trucking industry. Will be based at the Ponca City, OK yard while overseeing an expanding fleet that currently services Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico.

Requirements

  • Must be an expert in the field, knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices and compliance requirements.
  • 5 years experience in management and operations.
  • Experience in the delivery/trucking industry required.
  • Ability to create, implement and monitor training programs.
  • Must be organized and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must possess at least intermediate computer skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate excellence as an empowering leader in a dynamic, fast paced, hands-on environment.
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives in order to make best overall value decisions based on considering key factors, cost, customer expectations, driver needs and other factors.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and listen effectively with people of divers opinions and backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Fuel hauling industry experience preferred.
  • Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Transportation Director.
  • Communicate and work well with other team members, including Driver Manager, Human Resources, Mechanics, Transportation Facilities Coordinator, etc.
  • Oversee the transportation division with a focus on assets and equipment.
  • Manage the workforce (mechanics) to achieve daily production goals.
  • Determine equipment requirements for daily operational needs.
  • Oversee the maintenance of our fleet of equipment.
  • Aid in the scheduling of routine and urgent maintenance between the drivers and mechanics.
  • Manage the operations aspects of ongoing projects within the transportation division.
  • Responsible for inventory of tires and parts.
  • Will order supplies for DEF, anti-gel, etc.
  • Establish and maintain a standard of customer service that is second to none.
  • Preparing and controlling department expenses, implement cost-saving measures.
  • Handles oversight of mechanics, including their schedules and supervision.
  • Oversee completion/resolution of work orders.
  • Schedule yearly VAPE tests and coordinate with dispatchers to organize inspections.
  • Organize use of spare trucks and use of part-time employees for equipment movement, etc.
  • Inspect vehicles at various yards and remote work sties.
  • Oversee and handle outfitting of new trucks.
  • Handle all aspects of the electronic log and camera systems for drivers, currently Samsara.
  • Aid as needed in recruiting, interviewing, selection, training, motivation, coaching, and mentoring transport personnel (mechanics).
  • Ensures adherence to safety rules and regulations as well as DOT compliance.
  • Makes safety-conscious decisions.
  • Update truck and trailer permits and check the annual inspection report.
  • Outfit trailers with necessary hoses and fittings and complete a monthly trailer inventory.
  • Aid in the ordering of truck tires and follow inventory management controls.
  • Complete monthly yard inspections of all terminals, including fuel tank inspection.
  • Create and maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Effectively lead the team by setting an example in behavior, championing Shepherd Oil values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.
  • Maintains open, accurate, respectful and timely two-way communication with all personnel.
  • Communicate effectively in person and via phone and email.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and/or other facilities, as well as other trucking companies and their drivers, managers and representatives.
  • Travel will be required between all our transportation locations.
  • Will begin each day by reporting to the Ponca City yard.
  • A company vehicle will be provided for required travel to various work sites.
  • A company laptop and cell phone will be provided.
  • Base schedule of M-F 8a-5p with an expected workweek of 45-50 hours per week. There will be weeks that require more hours as needed. Some overnight travel will be required.
