The City of Olathe is seeking a dedicated Fleet Maintenance Technician for our 2nd shift team (9:00AM-5:30PM) + $.74 per hour shift differential. This role is crucial in maintaining the safety and operational efficiency of our municipal vehicles and equipment, supporting seamless city services. We offer an additional $0.74 per hour shift differential on top of your base pay for a 2nd shift schedule. A shift differential is additional pay offered to employees who work non-standard hours. Our Fleet Maintenance shop has a heavy and light side. The primary distinction is based on the size and weight of the vehicle, which dictates the required specialized equipment, facility design, and technician expertise. Separating these functions improves workflow efficiency, safety, and ensures that the appropriate tools and expertise are readily available for each type of vehicle. The heavy side of the shop is equipped to deal with large, rugged commercial and specialized vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR ) of over 10,000 pounds. The light side primarily handles the maintenance and repair of standard, everyday vehicles with a GVWR of up to 10,000 pounds. The Fleet Maintenance Technician uses their technical expertise to perform complex skilled maintenance, diagnostics and repairs to automotive, light, and medium duty trucks, and a wide variety of equipment such as but not limited to tractors and lawn mowers to ensure the vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently. This position is part of a four-level career progression of Fleet Maintenance Technician I, II, III and IV.
