About The Position

This position is responsible for: Receives, delivers, sorts, and stores items in the warehouse; enters receipt of incoming and outgoing shipments; pulls order in preparation for shipment; drives various Salvation Army vehicles as directed, performs minor repairs; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area; supervises volunteers and community service workers in the absence of the Disaster Operations & Warehouse Manager. Key Responsibilities: Loads and assists in loading trailer with materials: unloads or assists in unloading trailer by using forklift or hand truck; keeps front and back of trucks and trailers clear of debris at all times; operates any and all equipment in accordance with established safety guidelines and standards. Obtains shipping bills of lading and necessary signatures and returns completed paperwork to shipping office; ensures accuracy of shipped items; maintains any related records required. Compares identifying information and quantities on the packing slip against purchase order numbers, counts items for verification and indicates any discrepancies. Enters data for incoming and outgoing shipments, in the computer, once physical counts have been verified. Performs various material handling duties in the facilities by hand or by use of hand truck or forklift. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to complete repetitive hand movements including motions, grasping and holding with eye-hand coordination and dexterity. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Ability to distinguish colors as well as measure and assemble items at close range and visual inspection. Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 60 lbs.) frequently and up to 90 lbs. on some occasions. Ability to safely operate cars, trucks (automatic and standard), and forklifts. Ability to perform work at higher elevations including while standing on ladders and step stools as needed. Ability to perform work at night and while in dark environments with extreme noise levels and temperatures as needed Work in proximity to dust, fumes, acidic, harsh and oily substances. Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Occasionally work is performed at disaster scenes which can be hazardous and chaotic; where a heightened sense of awareness is required to maintain safety and temporary facilities are used such as working out of multiple trailers storing food and supplies, including frozen and refrigerated trailers. May be exposed to various types of hazards including but not limited to: forest or range fires, floods, hurricane, tornados, snow/ice storms, droughts, technological hazards such as major transportation accidents, oil spills, industrial fires, explosions, fixed nuclear accidents, hazardous material spills, man-made hazards (such as wars, terrorist attacks, civil unrest, strikes or outages of energy-producing resources). What we are looking for in you.Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, And Two years’ experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van; previous warehouse work experience and custodial experience preferred. Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
