About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Fleet and Logistics, the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the maintenance and repair of the ingredients PLUS fleet. This role combines hands-on mechanical duties with supervisory responsibilities, providing leadership and guidance to a team of Diesel Fleet Mechanics. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor ensures that vehicles and all company equipment are maintained to meet safety standards and service goals, while also managing daily operations and technician performance.

Requirements

  • Proficient in using fleet management software systems and modern diagnostic tools.
  • Strong understanding of fleet operations, maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team of technicians.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with the team and maintaining documentation.
  • Ability to motivate a team to meet performance and safety goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address mechanical and operational challenges.
  • Basic computer skills (email, web browsers, and Microsoft Office Suite).
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or in Fleet Maintenance.
  • NY State driver's license required; CDL license is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose failures in fleet vehicles and perform necessary repairs, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles, including PM services, brakes, tires, and minor electrical work.
  • Perform computer-based diagnostics and interface with modern truck systems.
  • Answer road calls and resolve mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment records, including pre-trip inspections and daily checklists.
  • Fill out all necessary documentation for repairs and maintenance.
  • Supervise, train, and support Fleet Mechanics in performing maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Assign and coordinate daily work duties, monitor progress, and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Oversee fleet equipment needs and ensure it is properly maintained, including ordering parts to keep technicians working efficiently.
  • Perform daily dossier reviews with technicians to ensure accurate records.
  • Supervise the work being performed through maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment by other Fleet Mechanics.
  • Assign and coordinate daily work duties to ensure the even flow of operations, expedite the handling of repairs, and meet deadlines.
  • Co-lead bi-weekly safety meetings to reinforce safety practices and address concerns.
  • Ensure 5S practices (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) are completed weekly to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Review shop performance metrics and strive to meet performance goals.
  • Administer the vehicle maintenance program, ensuring preventive maintenance schedules and repairs are completed on time and meet operational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and other state and federal safety standards.
  • Provide support to Fleet Mechanics, handle on-the-job training, and recommend improvement plans when needs with skill-based tasks arise.
  • Train staff on new equipment and technologies, ensuring proper operation and safety.
  • Provide ongoing development and support to Fleet Technicians to maintain high levels of skill and knowledge.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff regarding safety concerns and resolve issues promptly.
  • Direct supervision of Fleet Mechanics, including assigning tasks, overseeing daily workflow, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and feedback.
  • Assists in recruitment and retention activities to include interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching.
  • Oversees the execution and quality of training program for new hires to ensure accurate and adequate operational knowledge is gained.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and feedback to staff in the department.
  • In coordination with human resources, handles employee relations, discipline, and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
