About The Position

This classification conducts skilled work maintaining fleet equipment under regular supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Requirements

  • Requires an associate degree in automotive mechanics or a related field supplemented by three (3) years of experience in fleet services maintenance
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 
  • Must possess Georgia CDL license or the ability to obtain CDL within 1 year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • NAPA Certification for mechanics. 
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for heavy trucks is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and prepares work requests, reports, and equipment maintenance history.
  • Inspects newly arrived equipment and vehicles for compliance with specifications.
  • Conducts maintenance and repair on automotive and small engine equipment; maintains records and files.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and repairs on heavy trucks, construction equipment, and emergency vehicles.
  • Conducts a variety of welding and fabrication tasks; fabricates common and special tools.
  • Maintains files on technical manuals, hazardous waste information, safety regulations, and inspection information.
  • Conducts inspections and provides information to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor for vehicle and equipment disposition.
  • Follows hazardous waste disposal and shop safety programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
