About The Position

The incumbent will perform scheduled preventive maintenance on FWC inboard/outboard motors, boats, trailers and vehicles including radios, blue lights and sirens. Assists assigned field offices in tracking marine engine PM hours/dates. Repair marine engines and drive systems (outboards/inboard). Diagnose problem(s) identified in assigned work requests. The incumbent will assist with LE mobile and portable radio repairs. This will involve interaction and verbal troubleshooting of officer equipment complaints and the routing of issues to the proper level of expertise if the repair cannot be performed immediately. This service will be not limited to officer radios but will include all law enforcement equipment. The incumbent will remove or assist in the removal of engines or components and disassembles engines or components for diagnostic purposes. Performs routine and special checks on engine components; installs engines as per manufacturer's specifications, test runs and adjusts engines. The position includes the installation and repair of mobile and portable radios, marine electrical components, and other law enforcement electronic equipment The incumbent will prepare forms and records as directed to document all repair and support activities; responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and maintaining and safeguarding parts and supplies inventory necessary to make routine repairs. Prepares and submits reports as required within the appropriate time frame. Responsible for care, maintenance, repair and security of assigned service vehicle, tools and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on specialized tools and assigned equipment. Responsible for cleaning shop area, facility's grounds and equipment; review current shop manuals and technical literature on all marine equipment serviced. Incumbent must provide and maintain hand tools as required to complete routine tasks associated with the position. Maintains current knowledge of hardware and software for outboard motors. Uses electronic test equipment to maintain high quality diagnostic capability to document and solve problems associated with Radio systems, outboard motor ECMs, charging systems, other marine and land based electronic law enforcement equipment. The incumbent will repair boat trailers. Packs and/or replaces wheel bearings; repairs wiring and lights; rebuilds or replaces brakes system. Repair or replaces boat system components. Steering system; lighting system; fuel system; electrical system; seats; engine control system; engine instrumentation; hardware, radio systems, blue lights and other law enforcement equipment installed in vessels. Perform other duties as assigned including special projects, details, disaster deployments, multi-agency emergency deployments, other fleet-wide implementations and modification that involve patrol vehicles and vessels. Incumbent will maintain proficiency in the diagnoses, repair, maintenance and operation of all brands and types of agency utilized outboard motors, trailers, vessels, and other specialized law enforcement equipment as required. The incumbent will maintain familiarity with current shop manuals and technical literature on all marine equipment serviced. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work area. The incumbent will provide and maintain hand tools as required to complete routine tasks associated with the position and is responsible for maintaining and safeguarding parts and supplies inventory necessary to make routine repairs.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a level 2 background check if selected.
  • Must have working knowledge necessary to accomplish routine marine equipment repair.
  • Must be able to work on marine, land based mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Must be able to diagnosis and repair a wide variety of electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Must possess computer and administrative skills to complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to travel at short notice and possibly for an extended period of time.
  • Must be able to operate vessels from 16-36 feet.
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience working at a retail or government marine repair facility as a mechanic.
  • Must have received formal training from at least two of the following manufacturers (BRP, Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki or Honda).
