Fleet Consulting Motor Engineer (Birmingham preferred or remote hybrid within the SoCo footprint may be considered). Summary of Position Duties: This position is assigned to the Fleet Plant Engineering Support Electrical and Controls (I&C) Manager and provides support to the Southern Nuclear fleet (8 operating units) for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support. This position will also be responsible for governance and oversight of motor maintenance and life cycle management programs, including long range planning, performance monitoring, procedure development, and specification development input. Position will be filled at a level commensurate with successful candidate's skills and experience level. Candidates with strong motor technical abilities but limited nuclear experience will be considered; however, considerable nuclear plant experience is highly desired. Job and Educational Requirements: B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university preferred; however, a Bachelor of Science in an alternative engineering curriculum or Professional License (P.E.) combined with in-depth experience in power generation will be considered. Must be able to satisfy the minimum SNC physical requirements of the position. Experience with various motor designs, maintenance practices, refurbishment and repair practices, troubleshooting techniques, and monitoring techniques is highly desired. Troubleshooting experience, Vendor Factory Acceptance Testing, Performance testing and site acceptance tests. Experience supporting Maintenance and Engineering in resolution of motor equipment issues including on-site, repair facility, or field experience supporting special projects or outages. A minimum of 10 years’ motor experience is required. Active leadership in Professional Organizations (IEEE, NEMA, ASME) and Technical Committees (EASA, EPRI LEMUG) in the area of motors highly desired PE License in addition to BS Degree in Engineering is highly desired Advanced Degree relevant to motor design, selection, application, and failure prevention is highly desired Expertise in analysis of motor speed/torque curves, amperage, voltage and test data to ensure pump and fan compatibility and to eliminate overloading and degradation Industry engagement with Innovative Research relative to motor material selection, insulation properties, testing and repair processes
