About The Position

Fleet Breakdown Coordinator | Roadside Repair & Vendor Coordination | Richmond, VA Sweetie Boy Transportation, established in 2010, is a full-service Automobile Transportation and Logistics company. We’re hiring a Fleet Breakdown Coordinator to support our car hauler fleet by managing breakdown events, coordinating roadside repairs, and keeping trucks safe, compliant, and moving. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, controlling repair costs, and ensuring repairs meet DOT and company safety standards. A Fleet Breakdown Coordinator plays a vital role in fleet operations by triaging time-sensitive mechanical issues, coordinating with drivers and vendors, documenting repairs and costs, and spotting repeat failures to support preventative maintenance.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of semi-truck and trailer systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, emissions)
  • Experience in fleet maintenance, breakdown coordination, heavy-duty repair, or similar work
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems under pressure and make good calls quickly
  • Strong communication skills (drivers, vendors, internal ops) and calm decision-making in urgent situations
  • Highly organized with strong documentation habits (costs, downtime, repair details)
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and fleet compliance requirements
  • Comfort using maintenance software / dispatch tools (preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years in commercial transportation, fleet maintenance, or heavy-duty repair environments
  • Hands-on diesel mechanic experience or maintenance supervisor exposure
  • Experience coordinating roadside assistance / emergency repairs for a fleet

Responsibilities

  • Manage fleet breakdown incidents, including roadside repairs, towing, and emergency service coordination
  • Diagnose mechanical issues remotely and recommend appropriate repair actions
  • Coordinate with drivers, in-house technicians, and external repair vendors to resolve issues quickly
  • Maintain detailed records of breakdowns, repairs, parts/services, costs, and vehicle downtime
  • Ensure repairs and processes align with DOT regulations and company safety standards
  • Negotiate repair costs when appropriate and manage relationships with repair shops, towing providers, and service vendors
  • Identify recurring issues and communicate trends / recommendations to reduce future downtime
  • Provide technical guidance to drivers for minor troubleshooting and safety procedures
  • Participate in after-hours/on-call breakdown support as needed
