About The Position

General Summary: Flag traffic and other duties; operates and maintains equipment used for road maintenance: and assists in the construction and repair of county roads and bridges. Essential Duties: Other duties may be assigned. Operates various types of equipment for county road maintenance and construction projects, including steel roller, pneumatic roller, boom mower and tractor. Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel tires and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments; Smooths road surfaces; Clears ditches and culverts; Mows ditches and right of way as needed; Assists with basic maintenance of fences and bridges; Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts and right of way; Directs traffic at work sites as needed; Assists with patching, tapping, packing, and leveling cold mix, dirt, or other materials during road repair; and Loads standard had tools. Must be able to communicate allowable traffic movements to motoring public. Other Duties as assigned. Supervision Received: From Area Supervisor Given: This is a non-supervisory position. Education Required: High school graduation or its equivalent; or any combination of equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferred: Experience Required: At least one year of experience. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent; or any combination of equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be able to communicate allowable traffic movements to motoring public.
  • Operate equipment used in road construction and maintenance
  • Service and make minor repairs on equipment
  • Apply safety standards to prevent hazards
  • Understand and follow instructions
  • Tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers
  • Maintain valid Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience.
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.
  • Class C Driver’s License (valid).
