Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Flagger training certification.
  • 10 hr OSHA certification.
  • Class A CDL restricted with proper endorsements preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam, pre-employment controlled substance testing and criminal background check.
  • A high school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in the heavy highway construction and/or paving industry is a plus.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to comprehend and communicate technical specifications.
  • Ability to apply commonsense and understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Assist in setting up traffic work zones and flagging.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Position, join, align, or seal structural components, such as concrete wall sections or pipes.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations.
  • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete.
  • Engage in good work procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety.
  • Complete work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Maintain and clean tools, equipment, or materials to ensure items are in usable condition.
  • Listen to supervisory personnel, contractors, or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters.
  • Participate in company safety rules, safety meetings and in tool box talks.
