About The Position

The Senior Financial Accountant I performs professional accounting work involving financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance. This position supports organizational accounting operations by preparing detailed financial reports, conducting complex analyses, and assisting with audits. The role requires strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, experience with governmental or large organizational financial practices, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders. Work is performed under general supervision and may be subject to internal and external audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial reporting experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of governmental or large-scale organizational accounting and auditing practices.
  • Strong understanding of accounting systems, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial database management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for preparing financial statements, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience applying Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards.
  • Supervisory experience with reviewing and mentoring accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Develop detailed reconciliations, schedules, work papers, and note disclosures for financial reporting.
  • Review and analyze general ledger and sub-ledger reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for external audits.
  • Contribute to the development of annual comprehensive financial reports and related statements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Review work prepared by junior accounting staff and provide guidance as needed.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new accounting standards (e.g., GASB).
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending trainings, seminars, or reviewing professional publications.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal staff, external agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Benefits
