About The Position

Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a Fixture Repair Specialist to analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit assemblies and/or parts to fabricate and repair robot weld fixtures, hand weld fixtures, prototype jibs/fixtures, and prototype parts. This position works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus overtime on Fridays, as required. The Fixture Repair Specialist is based at the new Construction Equipment facility in Salina, KS. This position may require occasional overnight travel for training purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to weld various material types and possess general maintenance skills (i.e., electrical pneumatic wiring, air cylinder, air clamping, electrical magnets)
  • Ability to communicate problems with both GP and LP T&D Team, CE Mfg Engineering team and KBT Expats.
  • Experience with Machine Shop manual equipment (engine lathe, knee mill, drill press)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Working knowledge of CNC equipment
  • Must be able to use precision measuring equipment to ensure parts are manufactured within tolerance
  • Ability to maintain accurate paperwork
  • Willing to work overtime and occasional off-shifts as required

Responsibilities

  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to fixture drawing specifications.
  • Lift machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, pneumatic and electrical connections.
  • Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and functionality based on weld cell and part requirements.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Communicate with operators who run fixtures to get feedback on performance and potential design changes
  • Identify why fixtures are not performing and create solutions to resolve problem.
  • Order parts from different vendors and works with vendors to understand part needed.
  • Assist maintenance with fixture PM’s. Ensuring downtime is kept to a minimum.
  • Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wears prescribed safety and protective equipment
  • Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
