The Fixed Route Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring that each driver reports at their scheduled work shift time and arranging coverage for any call-offs within driver staffing. The dispatcher prepares and prints manifests for all operators ten minutes prior to scheduled check-in time, makes bus assignments, and ensures all operators pull out on time. They must supply written documentation of incidents that may require follow-up action, communicate clearly with others both verbally and in writing using the English language, and promptly provide clients with information on location and ETA. The dispatcher makes cost-effective and operationally efficient decisions regarding the assignment or movement of trips, monitors Transit Radio System (TRS) messages, and maintains a Dispatch Communication log while performing various administrative duties such as answering incoming calls and filing.

  • Monitor AVL screen to identify and prevent late running routes
  • Maintain Dispatch Communication log and complete all applicable documentation
  • Perform various administrative duties; answer incoming calls, courtesy calls and filing
  • Must be over 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous or current experience as a driver or dispatcher in the transit or transportation industry
  • Dependable with reliable transportation to get to and from work
  • Computer literate using a Windows-based computer operating system
  • Strong knowledge of the service area (Multi County area including DC)
  • Must have a valid CDL
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
