About The Position

Subject Matter Expert for all Global Fixed Glass and Glass Bonding applications. Provide technical support in developing Best In Class A-plr designs that support glass bonding while minimizing binocular obstruction. Technical support for glass bracket bonding applications (e.g. mirror buttons, rain sensor/camera brackets etc.) Ensure glass meets all technical requirements of the associated electrical modules. Drive implementation of heated glazing technologies that reduce heat load and support improved defrost functionality. Provide technical support for alternative vinyl technologies (Acoustic, IRR, Solar absorbing, Heads Ups Display (HUD)) Develop Part-in-assembly (PIA) A-plr windshield water management molding designs that prevent water ingress into side window. Prove out lead free glass soldering technologies for production application. Ensure legal and safety performance of fixed glass and glass bonding commodities. Support development of global BOP/BOD glass bonding strategy and implementation plan. Work with Paint Engineering to drive the implementation of a global paint technology that supports the primerless to paint glass bonding and one step UV florescence glass primer. Refine new windshield glazing surface control requirements to ensure wipe compatibility and migrate globally. Manage the following attributes: Design (Feasibility) Package Structural stiffness Wind noise, squeak & rattle, water management, etc. Cost & weight Appearance and craftsmanship Pedestrian Protection (in Cooperation with Body Safety) Author and ownership of the technical documentation e.g. SDS, Design Rules, generic DFMEA's, PDP's & DV plans. Technical support of Global Commodity Business Plan “GCBP” for Fixed Glass and Sealing (Glass Bonding). Manage Global fixed glass quality in support of quality objectives. Lead/support resolution of all fixed glass and glass bonding concerns (i.e. stop ships, glass bonding adhesive & structural performance concerns) Drive MCR actions to meet objectives. Requirements

  • BS in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of Fixed Glass and Glass Bonding Design & Release experience.
  • Experience with GD&T; knowledge of glass component, assembly, and installation tolerances.
  • Detailed understanding of the Fixed Glass legal requirements.
  • Awareness of all Advance Glass and Glass Bonding Technologies
  • Detailed understanding of craftsmanship, FCPA and production feasibility
  • FTEP accreditation, minimum 5 modules must include FMEA & G8D.

  • Formal responsibility for "Go-to" coaching and mentoring role within the functional activity for technical issues and quality tools
  • Develop and implement strategies (detailed training plan), to grow technical application and quality tool competency, in conjunction with the departmental manager.
  • Act as application "expert" at a component / sub-system & systems level and teach junior engineers by providing practical and workable solutions.
  • Robust resolution of highly complex problems that originate in component / sub-system & total system interface, in line with cost, quality & functional targets.
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and applied to future programs to prevent recurrence of any issues and improve robustness and reliability.
  • Lead/Support role in sign -off & launch phase to provide expert application leadership to resolve Product Development Manufacturing / Purchasing interface issues.
  • Manage consistent, effective and concise documentation of engineering program sign-off for area of expert responsibility.
  • Evaluate total value chain for area of expertise. Initiate and deliver action plans to optimise total business equation (inc. platform strategy & commonality; sourcing strategy; design philosophy; FSS strategy).
  • Drive consistent application of component / system across platforms.
  • Represent area of application expertise in Senior Management technical reviews.
