About The Position

As a Fitter you will be responsible for assembling and fitting miscellaneous steel components according to technical drawings and blueprints, ensuring that they meet design specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years experience in steel fabrication or welding
  • Must pass a drug and/or alcohol test (upon offer or promotion)
  • Basic Metalworking Skills: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and basic metalworking machinery.
  • Basic understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret simple technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Welding Proficiency: Advanced skills in welding, including the ability to perform intricate welding tasks using various techniques.
  • Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure working environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Willingness to work as part of a team and follow instructions from experienced fitters and supervisors.
  • Attention to Detail: Developing a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in the fabrication process.
  • Physical Endurance: Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and work in various positions.
  • Learning Attitude: Openness to learning and acquiring new skills on the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional technical or vocational training is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Weld steel members.
  • Move steel members into positions, manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Position, align, fit, and track weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Determine appropriate method and sequence of tasks in order to fabricate items in the most efficient way possible.
  • Coaching and training of lower-level fitters to help them advance in their skill sets.
  • Assisting foreman and managers maintain consistent workflow and production on shop floor to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Ensure all peers are following all safety policies.
  • Conduct thorough quality checks to identify and rectify defects, ensuring that the finished product meets quality standards.
